  • Details: As a lasting legacy of the Carlow Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme, this innovative and unique contemporary stained glass mural illustrates a Carlow narrative showing some key Carlow figures such as Micheál O’Hanrahan who grew up on Tullow Street and Nurse Margaret Kehoe from Leighlinbridge who lost her life on Easter Monday 1916, and tells of the role they played in 1916. Rich in symbolism the piece was created by Peadar Lamb, an artist working primarily in the medium of stained glass for over twenty years, using hand-made glass and a variety of techniques which have changed little over the centuries. Well worth a visit, Admission to the Museum as always is free! Opening Hours: Monday - Saturday 10.00am – 4.30pm

Grupa cheamara/Camera club every second Monday evening at 6.30pm – 8th and 22nd this month. Come along to the Photography Group and learn how to take a better photo. All welcome!


Grúpa Cuilteálaithe - Quilting Club - Our Quilting group meets here every Tuesday morning from 10.30 – 12.00 and new members are always welcome. Come along and see some fantastic work and share ideas.


Club Scrabble / Scrabble Club Scrabble club for adults: Wednesdays at 6.30pm.  All are welcome, scrabble boards supplied.


Toddler time
Grúpa tuismitheorí agus páistí Parent and Toddler Group –is on every Thursday morning from 10 – 12. Plenty of books, toys and games are available in our Community Room. Drop in anytime on Thursday mornings!


Rush Art Hobby Group - Following on from the very popular art classes of late, some members of the group have started the Rush Art Hobby Group. This is an informal gathering of painting and drawing for beginners and improvers, meeting weekly for mutual encouragement. Newcomers welcome. Bring your own supplies. Thursdays 2.00 to 4.00, Rush Library starting May 11th.

Celebrating the arts and creativity as we age

Music Appreciation With Ted Courtney
As part of the Bealtaine Festival, celebrating creativity as we age, please join us for a music appreciation talk with Ted Courtney on the 4th of May 2.30pm – 3.30pm.

Theme: Welcome to the season of 'Bealtaine' ; the season of early Summer when new a hope beckons to all nature. Flowers bloom, a young man's fancy turns to love and the girls dance and wear flowers in their hair. All nature celebrates.
All adults welcome!


Film screening

Photography class for Adults with Barry O’Carroll
Join us on Saturday the 20th of May at for a masterclass in photography with expert Barry O’Carroll. Description: This 4- hour photography class, suitable for beginners and improvers, aims to help participants:
understand the basics of exposure: aperture, shutter speed and iso.
learn how to use aperture and shutter speed creatively.
Be able to use the various controls and modes on their camera.
learn about photographic composition.
Places are limited and booking is essential.

The exhibition area in Rush Library is available for groups or individual artists throughout the year. If you are interested in displaying your paintings, photography or artwork, please let us know. The space is available for two weeks at a time and a charge of €10 applies per week per exhibition.

We have a room available for community use here also and would love to hear from anyone who would like to for example, set up a book club, a film club or organise a parent and toddler group. All such events in the library are free of charge and open to all.

A long time ago in a library far far away a special screening of a special movie was aired.  On May the 4th there will be another screening in Blanchardstown Library, starring DARTH VADER, so come in and sith down and become wan with the force....... we will also have storytelling and a colouring competition.
