N2 National Primary route Derry to Monaghan Road Closure

Notice of Monaghan County Council’s intention to close the N2 National Primary route (Derry to Monaghan) from its junction with L1170 to its junction with L1160.

This is to facilitateculvert construction work on the “N2 Corracrin to Emyvale Road realignment”, located approximately 3km south of Emyvale.

Dates:     
Friday 17th August 2018 from 7pm to Monday 20th August 2018 at 7am

Friday 24th August 2018 from 7pm to Monday 27th August 2018 at 7am
Friday 31st August 2018 from 7pm to Monday 3rd September 2018 at 7am

Diversion Routes

National Route & HGV Route: All Traffic Including HGV’s  travelling from the North

Traffic travelling to Monaghan/Dublin

Traffic from Aughnacloy to continue on the A28 Armagh Road reaching the village of Caledon.  In Caledon traffic to make a right turn on Main street/A28 and continue to Armagh where it will make a left turn onto the A3, followed by a right turn onto Irish street/A3.  Traffic will continue on the A3 then right turn at the Monaghan road/A3.  Traffic to continue on the A3 via Middletown following onto the N12 in Co. Monaghan. Detour ends at the Coolshannagh roundabout, Monaghan.

Local Route: All Traffic North of Emyvale heading South

For local traffic travelling from Emyvale village, take right onto L1160. Traffic to continue straight then turn left onto L1155 until its junction with the L1170, turn left and continue until you re-join the N2. Diversion ends. No HGV’s are permitted to use this route except those requiring local access.

National Route & HGV Route: All Traffic Including HGV’s  travelling from the South

Traffic travelling to Aughnacloy/Derry

At Coolshanagh Roundabout, Monaghan, traffic to take N12 Armagh Road and continue on to A3 to Middletown.  Continue on A3 towards Armagh.  Turn left on to Irish Street - A3.  Take left then right on to A28 Killylea Road.  Continue on A28 to Main Street Caledon.  Take left off Main Street Caledon on to A28 Derrycourtney Road.  Continue forward to Aughnacloy.  Diversion ends.

Local Route: All Traffic from Monaghan heading North 

For local traffic travelling from Monaghan, at the Junction of L1170 turn left and continue until the junction of the L1155.  Turn right continue on the L1155 until the junction of the of L1160.  Turn right continue on the L1160 until you re-join the N2. Diversion ends.  No HGV’s are permitted to use this route except those requiring local access.

Diversion signage will be in place on the above diversion routes

Emergency services access will be catered for at all times on the local diversion routes 

Any interested person may lodge an objection to the closing of the above-mentioned road with the Head of Roads, Monaghan County Council, MTEK II Building, Knockaconny, Monaghan not later than Tuesday 31st July 2018.

Any objections must be clearly marked on envelope “Objection To Road Closure”.

This notice complies with the Roads Act 1993 (Section 75)

Temporary Road Closure to Part of Concession Road, Culloville – Route No A37

Notice is hereby given that the Department for Infrastructure in its capacity as Road Authority and acting in pursuance of its powers under Article 7 of the Road Traffic Regulation (Northern Ireland) Order 1997 has temporarily prohibited the use of 1630 metres of the above road by vehicles from 08:00hrs on Monday 6th August 2018 to 18:00hrs on Friday 24th August 2018.

The closure is to facilitate resurfacing.

Traffic is being diverted via A37 Concession Road, N53, M1, N52, N2, Castleblaney & N53.

Temporary Closing of Roads

In order to facilitate the Monaghan Town Country Music Festival and Festival Funfair, Monaghan County Council gives notice to close the following roads and carpark on dates and times as described below: -


Monaghan Town
  • LS5515 – Lower Mill Street between North Road and Church Square from Thursday 12th July 2018 to Saturday 14th July 2018 between the hours of 6:30pm and 12.30 a.m. and on Sunday 15th July 2018 between the hours of 2.30 pm and 11:30 pm
  • LS5515 – Upper Mill Street between Hill Street and North Road from

Thursday 12th July 2018 to Saturday 14th July 2018 between the hours of 6.30 p.m. and 2.00 a.m.

  • R867 – From Market Street to the Diamond (including Church Square), Monaghan Town from Thursday 12th July 2018 to Saturday 14th July 2018 between the hours of 6.30 p.m. and 12.30 a.m. and on Sunday 15th July 2018 between the hours of 2.30 p.m. and 11.30 p.m. A partial road closure may also be put in place in the Diamond on Saturday 14th July 2018 between the hours of 2.30 p.m. and 5.30 p.m.

  • N54 – Glaslough Street (past the entrance to the car park (at the Hive Restaurant) via the Diamond and Dublin Street to Old Cross Square from Thursday 12th July 2018 to Saturday 14th July 2018 between the hours of 6.30 p.m. and 12.30 a.m. and on Sunday 15th July 2018 between the hours of 2.30 p.m. and 11.30 p.m.

Lower Courthouse Car Park Closure:

From Monday 9th July 2018 at 8.00 a.m. until Monday 16th July 2018 at 6.00 p.m. a section of the lower Courthouse carpark to facilitate the Festival Funfair (84 short term spaces, 37 long term spaces and 2 disabled spaces)

Alternative Routes:

    • Traffic coming from the North via Glaslough Street, wishing to access Dublin Street may do so via Plantation Road, North Rd (NS 54) to the N2 By-pass roundabout.
    • Traffic coming from the North via Glaslough Street, wishing to access The Clones Road (NS 54), or The Cootehill Rd (R188), or the Ballybay Road (R162), may do so via Plantation Road, North Road, Rowantree Road, High Street, Hill Street, Market Street, Park Street, Broad Road to the traffic lights.
    • Traffic approaching the town from N2 Derry road to divert via the N2 Monaghan Bypass at Coolshannagh roundabout (Grahams). Monaghan town bound traffic to turn right at roundabout at (Bogue’s) signposted Monaghan, and continue along R937 past Cathedral entering the town.
    • Traffic coming from the South, via Dawson Street, wishing to access Dublin Street, may do so via North Rd (NS 54) to the N2 By-pass roundabout.

Local and emergency services access will be catered for at all times.

Emergency Road Closure R180 Ballybay to CMX Road

Monaghan County Council wishes to advise the public of an emergency road closure on the R180 (Ballybay to Carrickmacross Road) between Ballybay and Tossey’s Cross between the hours of 6am and 4pm tomorrow Thursday 5th July and Friday 6th July to facilitate surface dressing works on the road.  Diversions will be in place.
