  • Details: The construction of the Carlow By-pass saw many archaeological treasures been excavated during the M9 Carlow By-pass construction. You will be struck by the similarities between ourselves and the people of the past. Our ancestors were able to feed, clothe and provide shelter for their families, but it was their skill and expertise that helped create the most beautiful handmade tools and crafts. So why not step back in time and experience how our ancestors lived. The exhibition is in association with the National Museum of Ireland and the National Roads Authority.   • Title: St. Willibrord, Patron Saint of Luxembourg and his County Carlow Connection

  • Details: St. Willibrord, who was trained and ordained in county Carlow in the 7th century at the most important Anglo-Saxon ecclesiastical settlement in Ireland. His connection has been celebrated in both Carlow and Luxembourg in June 2017. He is one of Europe’s most important saints, embarked on a mission to the continent from Carlow in AD 690 and this exhibition explores his enormous impact on the Netherlands, Germany & Luxembourg. Every year the town of Echternach, Luxembourg hosts an annual ‘hopping procession’, which has UNESCO World Heritage Status, in his honour. See a copy of St. Willibrord’s own hand writing, the oldest datable signature of an English person, written on a book from county Carlow. View samples of the beautiful manuscripts that were produced in Echternach. The method of making a manuscript is shown in detail, from producing the inks and the vellum to how the letters and designs were laid out.   • Details: Enjoy an evening of Festive Food with one of Ireland’s best known Chefs, Rachel Allen. This event will include 20 Local Food & Drink Producers and a cookery demonstration. Each ticket includes a €5 voucher for spending in the Food Village on the night and a nightly free draw for audience members. Carlow Culinary Christmas sets its festive table for the fourth year in VISUAL from Thursday 6th December 2018 to Saturday 8th December 2018. It’s a showcase of all things festive from the Food & Drinks businesses in County Carlow. Featuring nightly food stalls, giveaways and food demonstrations from nationally known chefs with each visitor getting a voucher to spend with a local producer and some great tips to use over the festive season. This year new features to the programme include a showcase closing event on Saturday 8th December called “Carlow Culinary Christmas Cookoff”, visualise 2 comedians, 2 local food producers, 1 judge and a mystery bag for each to cook from and a comedy set before and after to getting the festive cheer going. County Carlow has a vibrant Food & Drinks industry and this event, hosted by Carlow County Council’s Local Enterprise Office in partnership with VISUAL has been designed to celebrate what Carlow has to offer.   • Details: First produced over 20 years ago in Australia, this globetrotting show has sold out in places like Edinburgh Fringe and Sydney Opera House. The show returns to Carlow as part of its 2018 thirteen venue Irish winter tour. Chaos greets audiences as soon as they walk through the door. In this fully immersive experience, the audience become diners in the infamous ‘Faulty’ restaurant, served a 3-course meal by Basil, Sybil and Manuel. Expect lashings of laughter, huge bowls full of spontaneity and as much participation as individual audience members want. And with 70% of the show improvised, no two performances are ever the same.
