Carlow County Council wish to advise customers that due to essential repair works, the water supply serving dwellings at Donn Or housing estate, Brownshill Road, Carlow will be shut down between the hours of 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Tuesday, 2nd October, 2018.

  • Details: Come view a 3D printed model and historical reconstruction illustration of Carlow Castle. Both the 3D model and illustration are based on the time period of the late 14th century when Carlow was the administrative Capital of Ireland. The 3D printed model of the castle was made by Industrial Design Students at IT Carlow. The illustration of the Castle & surrounding areas was undertaken by Uto Hogerzeil, historical reconstruction artist. Both were commissioned by Carlow Town Council in 2013 to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the construction of Carlow Castle in 1213 AD. A free Carlow Castle brochure by Dr. Margaret Murphy, Carlow College is available to take away.

You will be struck by the similarities between ourselves and the people of the past. Our ancestors were able to feed, clothe and provide shelter for their families, but it was their skill and expertise that helped create the most beautiful handmade tools and crafts. So why not step back in time and experience how our ancestors lived. The exhibition is in association with the National Museum of Ireland and the National Roads Authority.   • Details: View this special exhibition that was featured on RTE television programme ‘Nationwide’ (view episode on the RTE Player, Monday 12th February). St. Willibrord, who was trained and ordained in county Carlow in the 7th century at the most important Anglo-Saxon ecclesiastical settlement in Ireland. His connection has been celebrated in both Carlow and Luxembourg in June 2017. He is one of Europe’s most important saints, embarked on a mission to the continent from Carlow in AD 690 and this exhibition explores his enormous impact on the Netherlands, Germany & Luxembourg. Every year the town of Echternach, Luxembourg hosts an annual ‘hopping procession’, which has UNESCO World Heritage Status, in his honour. See a copy of St. Willibrord’s own hand writing, the oldest datable signature of an English person, written on a book from county Carlow. View samples of the beautiful manuscripts that were produced in Echternach. The method of making a manuscript is shown in detail, from producing the inks and the vellum to how the letters and designs were laid out.   • Details: On Sunday 29th September for one day only ASH are going on tour! We are planning an amazing family fun day ! The setting is the stunning Duckett’s Grove castle in Carlow, a simply fascinating place with beautiful walled gardens and amazing woodlands. This event event could be every dog lovers dream – there is a lovely woodland walk planned, a fun dog show, agility fun, free training advice and tips and so much more. Other events include bouncy castles and fun stuff for the kids and the best bit is that every single cent raised is going towards the animals in our care. Admission is only €10 per car! We really hope our friends will come along and support us on the day – and even before then help spread the word to friends and family. More details of the event will be published very soon – in the meantime please put this date in your diaries. It promises to be an amazing day out for all and we look forward to seeing you and your four legged friends on the day.

Please be advised that Coffey Northumbrian Ltd. on behalf of Irish Water and Carlow County Council are carrying out Watermain Rehabilitation in Carlow Town Centre.
As part of these works there will be a planned water supply shutdown affecting the following areas of Carlow Town Centre from 00:00 am to 06:00 am on Wednesday 26th September, 2018. 
    • Barrack Street (from Shamrock Square to Hanover bridge)
    • Kennedy Avenue (from its junction with Barrack Street to junction with Potato Market)
    • Potato Market
    • Tullow Street (all of)
