Unplanned Water Outage Carlow Town Area.

Unplanned Water Outage Carlow Town Area.

Carlow County Council wish to advise consumers that due to emergency repair works on a burst watermain that the water supply is presently shutdown from The Athy Road Roundabout to Bestfield.

Carlow County Council is endeavouring to have the supply restored to this area by 5.00pm this evening.


Carlow County Council and Irish Water apologise for any inconvenience caused.

  • Details: Visit the historical St. Mary’s Church which has been at the centre of Carlow towns’ Church of Ireland community since the 17th century. The present church is the third church on the site, with the second built in the 18th century while the present church was completed in the 1830s, no doubt incorporating parts of the earlier churches. View the many memorials to local families including one to Thomas Gurly, great grandfather of George Bernard Shaw, Oscar and Nobel prize winning playwright. Open Thursday to Sunday from 11.30am to 5.00pm. Admission is free, donations welcome.   • Details: View this special exhibition on St. Willibrord, who was trained and ordained in county Carlow in the 7th century at the most important Anglo-Saxon ecclesiastical settlement in Ireland. His connection has been celebrated in both Carlow and Luxembourg in June 2017. He is one of Europe’s most important saints, embarked on a mission to the continent from Carlow in AD 690 and this exhibition explores his enormous impact on the Netherlands, Germany & Luxembourg. Every year the town of Echternach, Luxembourg hosts an annual ‘hopping procession’, which has UNESCO World Heritage Status, in his honour. See a copy of St. Willibrord’s own hand writing, the oldest datable signature of an English person, written on a book from county Carlow. View samples of the beautiful manuscripts that were produced in Echternach. The method of making a manuscript is shown in detail, from producing the inks and the vellum to how the letters and designs were laid out.   • Title: Carlow Castle 3D Model and Illustration on display

  • Details: Come view a 3D printed model and historical reconstruction illustration of Carlow Castle. Both the 3D model and illustration are based on the time period of the late 14th century when Carlow was the administrative Capital of Ireland. The 3D printed model of the castle was made by Industrial Design Students at IT Carlow. The illustration of the Castle & surrounding areas was undertaken by Uto Hogerzeil, historical reconstruction artist. Both were commissioned by Carlow Town Council in 2013 to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the construction of Carlow Castle in 1213 AD. A free Carlow Castle brochure by Dr. Margaret Murphy, Carlow College is available to take away.

  • Details: On Tuesday November 7th, the Feast of St. Willibrord, Patron Saint of Luxembourg, will be celebrated with an ecumenical service in the Cathedral of the Assumption, Carlow Town at 7.30pm. In June, the people of Luxembourg presented Carlow with a beautiful ‘Relic of St Willibrord’ to say ‘thank you’ for training and ordaining him in the 7th century. The Relic is displayed in the Cathedral. St. Willibrord was trained and ordained at Rath Melsigi, located in the present-day Roman Catholic Parish of Tinryland and the Church of Ireland Parish of Nurney. All Welcome

N80 Roadworks Boggan to Kilbride

Roadworks on N80 between Boggan and Kilbride to continue until Thursday 3rd November.  Stop/Go traffic in operation, delays expected.

Previous notice indicated works would finish on Wednesday 2nd November, however heavy fog on Friday 27th meant no resurfacing works were completed that day adding 1 day to the duration of the works. 11 2017
