  • Details: Ireland’s national feast day is celebrated throughout Co. Carlow with a series of parades in honour of St. Patrick, the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland. Parades will take place in the following locations. Different Venues around County Carlow: Tullow at 13:00 Bagenalstown at 13:00 Borris at 14:00 Ballon at 15:30 Carlow Town at 15:30

  • Details: Two elderly farmers, Eamon and Nashee, meet at a gate on a remote hillside. They are old rivals, old neighbours. Their conversation is of a gentler time. But there's nothing gentle about today's conversation. They are forced to confront each other with some heart-breaking truths. The Quiet Land is a celebration of the humour, resilience and endearing innocence of an older generation as it struggles to survive in the rural Ireland of today.   • Details: Carlow Farmers Market is held every week in the centre of Carlow Town (at the old Potato Market beside the main town-centre Car Park) and there are a wide variety of producers selling their fresh produce to the general public

  • Title: 1916 Commemorative Stained Glass Mural by artist Peadar Lamb
  • Venue: Carlow County Museum

  • Details: As a lasting legacy of the Carlow Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme, this innovative and unique contemporary stained glass mural illustrates a Carlow narrative showing some key Carlow figures such as Micheál O’Hanrahan who grew up on Tullow Street and Nurse Margaret Kehoe from Leighlinbridge who lost her life on Easter Monday 1916, and tells of the role they played in 1916. Rich in symbolism the piece was created by Peadar Lamb, an artist working primarily in the medium of stained glass for over twenty years, using hand-made glass and a variety of techniques which have changed little over the centuries. Well worth a visit, Admission to the Museum as always is free! Opening Hours: Monday - Saturday 10.00am – 4.30pm

  • Title: The Quiet Revolution - 70th Anniversary of Rural Electrification Exhibition
  • Venue: Carlow County Museum
  • Start Date/Time: 20/03/2017, 10:00
  • Details: The Rural Electrification Scheme has been described as one of the greatest social and economic developments in twentieth-century Ireland. This exhibition explores the bringing of the light to Carlow, from the first public lighting in 1891, to the implementation of rural electrification in the area (1947-1963) and has a focus on Paddy Dowling, Carlow Person of the 20th Century. The Quiet Revolution Exhibition has been developed in association with the E.S.B.. Admission is free.
