  • Details: : Celebrate the Feast of St Willibrord, Patron Saint of Luxembourg and his Co. Carlow connection in St Laserian’s Cathedral, Old Leighlin on Monday 7th November at 7.00pm with an ecumenical service led by the Right Reverend Michael Burrows, Bishop of Ossory, Cashel, Ferns, Lismore, Waterford and Leighlin and the Most Reverend Denis Nulty, Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin. This will be followed by a Lecture by Professor Dáibhí Ó Cróinín, Department of History, NUI Galway on Clonmelsh, Willibrord, and Carlow's Contribution to the Anglo-Saxon mission on the continent in the 8th century. All are welcome to attend.

  • Title: The UCD Library and Archives Kevin Barry Digital Collection Display at Carlow College

  • Details: Ninety-six years ago on November 1st Carlow man Kevin Barry was executed in Mountjoy Gaol for his role in the Irish ‘War of Independence’. UCD Library and UCD Archives have digitised two wonderful and evocative collections, honouring one of Irish history's young heroes. A travelling exhibition of four information panels about Kevin Barry and the digital collection will be on display in Carlow College, St Patrick’s, College Street, Carlow Town from 25 October to 28 November from Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm. The exhibition is being organised in association with Carlow County Museum. Monday- Friday, 9.00 – 17.00

  • Title: 1916 Commemorative Stained Glass Mural by artist Peadar Lamb

  • Details: As a lasting legacy of the Carlow Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme, this innovative and unique contemporary stained glass mural illustrates a Carlow narrative showing some key Carlow figures such as Micheál O’Hanrahan who grew up on Tullow Street and Nurse Margaret Kehoe from Leighlinbridge who lost her life on Easter Monday 1916, and tells of the role they played in 1916. Rich in symbolism the piece was created by Peadar Lamb, an artist working primarily in the medium of stained glass for over twenty years, using hand-made glass and a variety of techniques which have changed little over the centuries. Well worth a visit, Admission to the Museum as always is free! Opening Hours: Monday - Saturday 10.00am - 5.00pm; Sundays & Banks Holidays 2.00pm - 4.30pm

Here at the Weather Station the Weather Watchers are very busy putting the final touches to their new machine and they need the children's help! Together with the children the Weather Watchers will investigate and capture all sorts of weather and add them to the mix with magical results. This is a new work from our Theatre Artist in Residence. Joanna Williams created with Drama Facilitator Joanna Parkes.   • Details: The Rural Electrification Scheme has been described as one of the greatest social and economic developments in twentieth-century Ireland. This exhibition explores the bringing of the light to Carlow, from the first public lighting in 1891, to the implementation of rural electrification in the area (1947-1963) and has a focus on Paddy Dowling, Carlow Person of the 20th Century. The Quiet Revolution Exhibition has been developed in association with the E.S.B.. Admission is free. Monday- Saturday 10.00-16.30

What kind of Ireland awaits them? When The Plough and the Stars was first performed at the Abbey Theatre in 1926 the audience rioted. Now regarded as a masterpiece, Sean O'Casey's provocative play is an essential part of our understanding of 1916. By kind permission of Samuel French. Carlow Little Theatre Society return to VISUAL, Carlow with their commemoration of the rising, some ten years after the society last performed the play and fifty years after they performed The Plough and the Stars on the 50th anniversary of the rising in 1966. After 50 years the soldiers moved out and the family began to convert it into a family home. Many generations of the family subsequently added various extensions and details giving the effect of a truly unique and interesting building. In the 1970s the basement was converted into a temple to the Egyptian Goddess Isis, and the present generation continue to renovate and improve where possible. The guided tour brings the history and stories of the castle and its occupants to life. It takes in the living quarters and formal rooms of the castle, as well as the Temple of Isis in the basement. NEW for 2015 – this season the old kitchens, drawing room and refurbished conservatory will feature as part of a brand new tour.

Draft Gorey Local Area Plan - Public Consultation Event

Wexford County Council will hold a Public Consultation Event on the Draft Gorey Town and Environs Local Area Plan 2017-2023 on Tuesday, 18th October 2016 from 2pm-7pm in the Civic Offices, Civic Square, The Avenue, Gorey Town. 


It will be an informal drop-in event where the Forward Planning team will be available to meet with you on a one-to-one basis to discuss the Draft Plan.
