  • Details: Want to dip your toe in the sewing pool? Then this is the class for you! Learn how to create a useful and stylish Tote bag that is ideal for every day. Upcycle your old favourite pair of jeans, a skirt or even a preloved coat, or start afresh with new material. Participants will need to bring a sewing machine but friends can share one. Suitable for beginners who can sew a straight line on a machine and over 14 years old. This will a unique opportunity to learn a new skill or refresh your knowledge in a friendly workshop environment. Facilitated by Oren Little and Saidhbhín Gibson. What you will need to attend the sewing class. Sewing machine with thread and bobbin with colour matching your material. We recommend Gutermann thread as it is the strongest. Sharp scissors. Ruler and tailors chalk. Sewing needle and pins. Material to make the Tote bag. This can be an old jeans, a jacket or new material. Curtain material is ideal also. It just needs to be strong enough to hold items when it is a bag. Jumpers won’t work as the material is too soft. If in doubt bring along a few things and we can help you choose. Straps will be made out of the same material. Again bring options and we can help you decide. The material needs to be about 1/2 metre. Material for the lining.   • Details: As a lasting legacy of the Carlow Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme, this innovative and unique contemporary stained glass mural illustrates a Carlow narrative showing some key Carlow figures such as Micheál O’Hanrahan who grew up on Tullow Street and Nurse Margaret Kehoe from Leighlinbridge who lost her life on Easter Monday 1916, and tells of the role they played in 1916. Rich in symbolism the piece was created by Peadar Lamb, an artist working primarily in the medium of stained glass for over twenty years, using hand-made glass and a variety of techniques which have changed little over the centuries. Well worth a visit, Admission to the Museum as always is free! Opening Hours: Monday - Saturday 10.00am - 4.30pm

Réaltaí Samhraidh/ Summer Reading Stars – Pick up your card today!
The Summer Stars Reading Adventure has officially kicked off in Balbriggan Library. Pick up your card and start collecting stamps today!
Check out the Summer Stars website at
www.summerstars.ie, which has lots of online games and activities as well as a range of animated ebooks. You will find a children’s books discussion board and interviews with well-known people about their favourite books. There are also helpful tips for reading and recommended titles by age group for children to read. The books can then be borrowed from your local library service. And it’s all free!

  • Details: Join Bishop Burrows, Bishop of Leighlin and Bishop Nulty, Bishop of Kildare & Leighlin as the Relic of St. Willibrord, Patron Saint of Luxembourg is walked between Carlow’s two cathedrals via the Barrow Way. The Relic has been specially presented by the people of Echternach, Luxembourg. In AD 690 Willibrord led a mission from Co. Carlow to the continent. Procession starts in Old Leighlin at 9.45am. Arrives to the Cathedral of the Assumption at 6.15pm. All welcome. Walk Safely. For details and timings see Kandle.ie
