Réaltaí Samhraidh/ Summer Reading Stars – Pick up your card today! The Summer Stars Reading Adventure has officially kicked off in Balbriggan Library. Pick up your card and start collecting stamps today! Check out the Summer Stars website at www.summerstars.ie, which has lots of online games and activities as well as a range of animated ebooks. You will find a children’s books discussion board and interviews with well-known people about their favourite books. There are also helpful tips for reading and recommended titles by age group for children to read. The books can then be borrowed from your local library service. And it’s all free! Details: Join Bishop Burrows, Bishop of Leighlin and Bishop Nulty, Bishop of Kildare & Leighlin as the Relic of St. Willibrord, Patron Saint of Luxembourg is walked between Carlow’s two cathedrals via the Barrow Way. The Relic has been specially presented by the people of Echternach, Luxembourg. In AD 690 Willibrord led a mission from Co. Carlow to the continent. Procession starts in Old Leighlin at 9.45am. Title: 1916 Commemorative Stained Glass Mural by artist Peadar Lamb

Details: As a lasting legacy of the Carlow Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme, this innovative and unique contemporary stained glass mural illustrates a Carlow narrative showing some key Carlow figures such as Micheál O’Hanrahan who grew up on Tullow Street and Nurse Margaret Kehoe from Leighlinbridge who lost her life on Easter Monday 1916, and tells of the role they played in 1916. Rich in symbolism the piece was created by Peadar Lamb, an artist working primarily in the medium of stained glass for over twenty years, using hand-made glass and a variety of techniques which have changed little over the centuries. The Communities Facilities Scheme closing date is looming, 30th June. This is a funding scheme to enhance communities, address disadvantage and improve social cohesion at a local level by providing access to small-scale capital grants.
Under the scheme community and voluntary groups may apply for a grant up to €1,000 for capital projects which benefit the local community.
Applications should relate to at least one key target group and thematic area in order to be eligible for consideration e.g. youth, older people, immigrants, refugees, travellers, ex-prisoners, projects promoting cultural activity, equality, community development, integration and projects which are part of the Creative Ireland 2017-2022 initiative. Projects or elements of projects of a capital nature may be funded, for example, office equipment, project resources, research facilities, energy efficiency equipment, etc.
Closing date for receipt of applications is Friday 30th June 2017 at 5pm

As part of the public display period, we will be holding a public Information Day on the Draft Plan in Ferrybank Library on Wednesday the 21st June, from 2:30 - 8 pm. The purpose of the Information Day is to provide an opportunity for the public to view the Draft Plan and speak with a member of the planning team in advance of making submissions. All are welcome, no appointment is necessary.
