Both orders were founded by Bishop Delany in Tullow in 1807 and 1808 and their influence has been felt worldwide since then.   • Details: National Heritage Week is a celebration of nature, community and people. National Heritage Week 2017 will take place from 19-27 August. More than 30 events are registered with the Heritage Council by heritage enthusiasts in Carlow, including Carlow County Council, community groups and individuals. The programme highlights the abundance of great work that is carried out by communities in Ireland to preserve and promote our natural, built and cultural heritage. Most of the events are free of charge so that heritage can be accessed and appreciated by all. The programme of events, include: Historical walks and tours, lectures and talks, access to museums, craft workshops, community events and much much more. All events are free unless stated otherwise. National Heritage Week is co-ordinated by The Heritage Council. Heritage week is co-ordinated locally by Carlow County Library Service and is supported by Carlow County Council.   • Details: The Amy Lawler Memorial Fund will host ‘Amy’s Country Fair’ on Sunday 6th August 2017 in Duckett’s Grove, Carlow, from 12pm onwards. Admission - €5 per adult children free The aim is to get the community together for a family day out and enjoy the local crafts, old time stalls, bouncy castles, face painting and lots more. There will be lots of different events and also live music throughout the day. There will be members of local GAA Clubs displaying the history of their club and a local pharmacist with the old pharmacy equipment on display. The Amy Lawler Memorial was set up in 2011 in memory of Amy Lawler, who passed away in January 2011, she was 17 years old. Amy suffered with Cystic Fibrosis and was awaiting a double lung transplant. Her family and family friends set up the fund in her memory, helping local families with serious and terminal illnesses with hospital expenses, food, fuel and lots more. We hope to see you all on the 6th August to remember Amy and celebrate her life.

  • Details: As a lasting legacy of the Carlow Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme, this innovative and unique contemporary stained glass mural illustrates a Carlow narrative showing some key Carlow figures such as Micheál O’Hanrahan who grew up on Tullow Street and Nurse Margaret Kehoe from Leighlinbridge who lost her life on Easter Monday 1916, and tells of the role they played in 1916. Rich in symbolism the piece was created by Peadar Lamb, an artist working primarily in the medium of stained glass for over twenty years, using hand-made glass and a variety of techniques which have changed little over the centuries. Well worth a visit, Admission to the Museum as always is free! Opening Hours: Monday - Saturday 10.00am - 4.30pm
